Hyundai was spotted testing a prototype of a production version of its Seven electric SUV concept, which was unveiled at the 2021 Los Angeles Auto Show.

This production version, first announced at the launch of the Ioniq EV sub-brand in 2020, will likely be called the Ioniq 7 and has been confirmed for a 2024 launch.

This means that it will most likely be introduced as a 2025 model, and its debut could be late this year or early next year.

The design of the production version is significantly toned down compared to the concept, but retains the same sweeping roofline as well as the nearly vertical tailgate. The wheel arches have been changed from the concept's square design to a more conventional rounded design, and the doors have been changed from the concept's rear-opening coach-style doors to conventional doors.

It will be similar in size to a mid-size SUV like Hyundai's Palisade, but the packaging advantages of the EV platform should make the cabin space closer to full size. The Seven Concept's wheelbase was 126 inches long, but the production model's wheelbase is likely to be slightly shorter.

The Ioniq 7 will be a close relative of the boxy 2024 Kia EV9 unveiled earlier this year. A related SUV to the Genesis, named GV90 or Electrified GV90, may also be in the works, although it has yet to be confirmed.

Hyundai has not confirmed powertrain specs for the production version of the Seven Concept, but its numbers will likely match those of the EV9. Depending on the market, the EV9 comes standard with a 76.1 kwh battery and rear-wheel drive. Above that is a 99.8 kwh battery with a choice of rear-wheel drive or all-wheel drive. The longest range is with the 99.8 kwh battery and rear-wheel drive, which Kia estimates to be approximately 300 miles, based on EPA test cycles.

Hyundai is working on nearly a dozen EVs for the rest of the decade. Next up is the sporty Ioniq 5 N, which will debut next month at the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed. The company also plans to introduce a next-generation EV platform with a standardized battery and motor.
