The 2025 Infiniti QX80 is dismantled above a 100-story tower in New York City.

The redesigned 2025 Infiniti QX80 was unveiled to the public at the Edge at Hudson Yards, a skyscraper observation deck 100 stories above the street in Manhattan, NYC. It took some ingenuity to get this large SUV up there.

As shown in the video released by Infiniti, the QX80 used for the public unveiling was disassembled and then reassembled above the city streets. The disassembly, which began 40 days prior to the reveal, included the removal of the engine and fuel system, as well as electrical adjustments to ensure that the seat controls, lighting, and audio systems would work with the QX80 reassembled.

The QX80 was not just disassembled; the QX80 was not just disassembled; it was cut into smaller pieces to fit into the cargo elevator that would carry everything to the elevated public location. The roof was cut off and the frame split.

Remarkably, this is not the first time an automaker has cut up a car to fit it on top of a New York City skyscraper. Ford pulled a similar stunt on the 86th floor observation deck of the Empire State Building when it introduced the first Mustang in 1964.

Ford repeated the stunt in 2014 for the Mustang's 50th anniversary, but refrained from doing so for the Mustang's 60th anniversary at the 2024 New York Auto Show last month.

The redesigned QX80 boasts a sharp new look and features that make it competitive with rival luxury SUVs. Highlights include a twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V-6 that replaces the current model's naturally aspirated 5.6-liter V-8 and a more sophisticated three-screen infotainment system.

These new features, however, come with a steep price increase: the 2025 QX80 will start at $84,445 including destination, compared to $76,045 for the 2024 model. The vehicles should arrive at dealerships this summer.
