Honda has kept its promise to offer an electric midsize SUV for under $50,000, a promise it made when the 2024 Prologue debuted last fall.

Honda announced Thursday that pricing for the 2024 Prologue will start at $48,795, including a $1,395 destination charge. The company also confirmed an EPA-rated maximum range of 296 miles.

The Prologue was introduced to dealers in March and is the most expensive vehicle in Honda's lineup.

The list of standard features includes 19-inch alloy wheels, heated front seats, a 10-way power-adjustable driver seat with lumbar support, wireless smartphone charger, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Google Built-ins and more are included. Honda also offers a set of electronic driver assistance features as standard equipment, but did not provide details on the list. [According to Honda, the Prologue's only battery is an 85kwh unit, capable of up to 150kw of DC fast charging. There are two powertrains to choose from. The standard front-wheel drive setup with a single motor is 212 hp, while the available dual-motor all-wheel drive setup is 288 hp.

The range estimate of 296 miles is the maximum for the single-motor option; adding a dual-motor powertrain, which costs $3,000, lowers the maximum range to 281 miles.

The Prologue uses General Motors' Ultium EV platform and battery technology; GM also builds the Prologue for Honda at its plant in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico. At this plant, GM is building the Ultium-based 2024 Chevrolet Blazer EV, which has similar dimensions to the Prologue, with an overall length of 192 inches and a wheelbase of 121.8 inches. Pricing for the Blazer EV starts at approximately $56,000.

Similarly, GM is also building the Acura ZDX in 2024, an electric midsize SUV more similar to the Cadillac Lyric; prices for the ZDX start at $64,500 by destination.

Honda will eventually launch a new family of EVs based on its platform, and some of those models will land in the U.S. This new family, unveiled earlier this month at the 2024 CES, will be known as the 0 (zero) series and will be available for the 2026 It will produce a production version of the sleek saloon concept shown at CES for the U.S. market.

Also in 2026, Honda and Sony's joint venture will launch a new branded "Afila" electric sedan; a prototype of the Afila sedan was also on display at CES. Honda plans to produce the sedan at one of its North American plants, probably in Ohio.
