2025 BMW 4 Series Gran Coupe Spy Shot

BMW is working on a mid-cycle update to the current 4 Series range, and a prototype of the hatchback Gran Coupe has been spotted.

The current 4 Series was introduced as a coupe for the 2021 model year, with a Gran Coupe body style added for 2022. Next year, the entire series should be introduced as an updated 2025 model.

The latest prototype has been spotted on the streets around the Nürburgring, and judging by its camouflage gear, it will bring a refreshed front and rear end, a revised interior design, and perhaps some new interior technology.

Partially visible are new light signatures for the headlights and taillights, with subtle tweaks to the intake design as well. What remains unchanged is the controversial giant kidney grille.

BMW test drivers covered the dashboard when parking, making it invisible to spy photographers. Separate screens for the instrument cluster and infotainment system, already used by BMW on the electric i4 variant, will be integrated into a single panel with this update.

The November launch should also feature the latest version of the BMW iDrive infotainment system. iDrive places common functions in a single hierarchy for easy access.

Plans for the powertrain are not clear. The base grade should continue to be powered by a 2.0-liter turbo four that produces about 255 hp. The more powerful M440i model should retain the 3.0-liter inline-six turbo and a mild hybrid system that produces about 382 hp. The mild hybrid system is an integrated starter motor and generator that recovers energy during braking. i4 should continue to offer single-motor rear-wheel drive and dual-motor all-wheel drive, possibly with the same 281 hp and 469 hp output as the current i4. output will be offered.

BMW M executives have already confirmed that dual-clutch automatic and manual transmissions will be discontinued in the lineup, including M-exclusive models. automatic transmission, and that will not change with the upcoming update.
