Mercedes-Benz's top-selling GLC-Class is getting a makeover for 2023, with the new model set to arrive at dealerships in the spring with a starting price of $48,250.

The compact SUV has sold more than 50,000 units per year in the U.S. for the past five years, a trend that will continue with the redesigned model, thanks to a combination of no-frills styling, a high-tech cabin, and plenty of standard features.

The GLC-class will initially be offered only in rear-wheel drive GLC 300 and all-wheel drive GLC 300 4Matic grades. Starting prices are for the rear-wheel drive grade. All-wheel drive is a $2,000 option.

Standard features include a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, 11.9-inch infotainment screen, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless charging pad for smartphones, 16-way heated front seats with memory, automatic anti-glare rearview mirrors, ambient lighting, and more.

For an additional $2,250, customers can choose the Exclusive trim, which adds a Burmester audio system, surround-view camera system, navigation system, and more. For an additional $4,350 over the base price, customers can upgrade to the Pinnacle trim. This includes all of the standard and exclusive trim levels, plus a heads-up display, augmented reality navigation, digital light headlights, and thermal and acoustic glass.

The sole powertrain is a 2.0-liter turbo-four with mild hybrid technology that delivers 258 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque on its own and a motor-generator integrated with the standard 9-speed automatic transmission. It recovers energy under braking and can add about 23 hp and 147 lb-ft. Performance is reported to be 0-60 mph in 6.2 seconds and a top speed of 130 mph.

An even more powerful grade will come from the Mercedes AMG hot house. A GLC-class coupe body style will also be available, but no date has yet been announced; it will most likely appear in the 2024 model year.
