Spy shot of the 2024 Maserati GranCabrio Folgore

Maserati's redesigned GranTurismo will go on sale this spring. But a new generation GranTurismo convertible will soon arrive, this time branded GranCabrio (the name the previous car used abroad).

The latest spy shots show a prototype of the new GranCabrio in Folgore electric version. Forgole, which means "lightning bolt" in Italian, is the designation Maserati uses for its electric cars.

The Folgore version of the GranCabrio can be identified by its sealed grille and lack of exhaust tips.

The GranTurismo's Folgore has already been shown to the public, and this GranCabrio's Folgore should have the same or similar specifications. This means a three-motor powertrain (one in the front and two in the rear) producing a total of 760 hp and all-wheel drive. Performance figures for the Folgore should be 0-62 mph acceleration in 2.7 seconds and a top speed of 199 mph. It will also feature a distinctive sound tuned by Maserati.

Powering the motor is a T-shaped 92.5 kwh battery, which Maserati says will give the car a competitive range: 250 to 300 miles under EPA regulations; an 800-volt architecture will allow for fast recharging; and an 800-volt power supply will allow the car to be charged in a single charge.

The GranCabrio will be available in the luxury-oriented Modena and the sporty Trofeo, both powered by a twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6. The Modena delivers 490 hp and the Trofeo 550 hp.

Maserati will launch the GranCabrio as a 2024 model later this year. The GranTurismo Folgore will also be available later this year and will most likely hit the market along with the GranCabrio Folgore. Prices for the electric car will start at over $200,000.

Maserati plans to offer an electric car option on all its cars by 2025 and to sell exclusively electric cars by 2030. The new Grecale compact crossover also has a Forgore version, and Maserati is developing a Forgore version of its MC20 supercar. The Quattroporte and Levante are not expected to offer electric power until their respective model changes. As for the Ghibli, it will end with the current model.
