Genesis X Convertible Concept presents a sexy electric grand tourer.

Genesis is on a roll by design, and all signs point to the Korean luxury automaker accelerating rather than slowing down. Walls crumbled off the box of the Genesis X Convertible Concept in Malibu, California, on Tuesday.

Light on detail and long on looks, the 2+2 electric hardtop convertible makes a design statement that seems to be an exclamation point.

Luc Donckerwolke, head of design for Genesis, declined to confirm production of the stunning convertible, telling Motor Authority, "I don't like show business."

According to Genesis, the X Convertible is based on the same electric platform as the Genesis X Concept unveiled in 2021 and the Genesis X Speedium Concept unveiled last April. According to Donckerwolke, the three concepts are designed and formulas were created to refine the formula and to see if a business case could be made for a limited-production mass-produced vehicle.

Inside, the X Convertible's driver-centric cockpit is a modified version of the X Speedium Coupe Concept's interior. As in the coupe, the center console is oriented toward the driver and the passenger is cut off from the controls.

The folding hardtop, which was not shown or carried at the time of the reveal, is said to utilize a transparent moonroof to provide an open feeling to the occupants even when closed.

Low and sleek, the concept has a long dash-to-axle ratio, an extended hood, short front and rear overhangs, wraparound LED lights at all four corners, and a ducktail spoiler. All of this emphasizes the simple, attractive lines of the car. Genesis noted that the aero-dish wheels feature a functional design with specially spaced concave areas that dissipate heat from the brakes.

Donckerwolke said that the design shared by the X Convertible and Speedium coupe concept seems to have found the sweet spot for a grand tourer that will resonate with customers.
