History of the development of the 2022 Acura NSX Type S.

The 2022 Acura NSX Type S is the ultimate version of the second-generation NSX and serves as the model's swan song. Acura recently released a video detailing how the limited edition Type S was developed.

To review, the Type S has undergone a number of changes, including increased power and revised aerodynamics: the 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 engine features new injectors and turbochargers for the NSX GT3 Evo race car, while the new 3.5-liter V-6 engine is now equipped with a new, more powerful, and more powerful engine, The overall output of the hybrid powertrain has been increased to 600 hp and maximum torque to 492 lb-ft. This is 27 hp and 16 lb-ft more than the standard car.

Satoshi Mizukami, chief engineer and development leader of the NSX Type S, said in the video that Acura wanted to advertise its additional power with more aggressive styling. But the new front bumper and NSX GT3 Evo-inspired rear diffuser also benefit actual performance. The front bumper incorporates a carbon fiber front splitter to reduce aerodynamic lift, while the larger grille opening allows more air to be fed to the radiator. Both engineers and designers were involved in the wind tunnel process to rework the nose.

The Type S also comes with a model-exclusive Gotham Gray matte paint color and five-spoke split forged aluminum wheels with Pirelli P-Zero tires. The wheels have a larger negative offset for improved handling, and Acura claims the new tires offer 6% more grip.

Acura plans to produce 350 units of the 2022 NSX Type S, with 300 to be designated for the U.S. market by the end of NSX production. Deliveries will begin in December, with prices starting at $171,495 (including a $1,995 destination charge).

The launch of the new NSX Type S is not surprising, as Acura has indicated that it wants to add Type S versions to most of its models. We also recently got the TLX Type S, and the MDX Type S is expected next. Acura bosses have also hinted that another NSX is on the way, but it is unclear when that third-generation supercar will arrive.
