Zinger launches a faster and wider-bodied 21C

Czinger unveiled the 21C back in February, but the American manufacturer is already preparing a faster version of its hybrid hypercar.

The wide-body 21C is being developed with 1,331 hp, 98 hp more than the regular 21C, Jens Sverdrup, Czinger's chief commercial officer, told Piston Heads in an interview published last week.

According to Sverdrup, who worked at rival hypercars Koenigsegg and Rimac before joining Czinger, the wide-body 21C will have a customized chassis setup, a wider body and wider tires. These changes should help improve traction both mechanically and aerodynamically.

The power increase is a change to the powertrain of the regular 21C, consisting of a 2.88-liter twin-turbo V8 and three electric motors. Two of these drive the front wheels and the V8 drives the rear wheels; the third electric motor is coupled to the V8 and acts as a generator. This motor maintains a constant charge on a fast-charging lithium-titanate battery.

Given that the regular 21C accelerates to 62 mph in 1.9 seconds, the quarter mile in 8.1 seconds, to 248 mph and back to zero in 29 seconds, one can only imagine what the higher-powered version is capable of.

The company is currently working on its own V8 engine, which will match the refinement and smoothness of engines with much less power.

Zinger plans to produce only 80 examples of the 21C, with everyone able to choose between a regular or wide-body model. Prices will start at $1.7 million. US dollars, with first deliveries expected in late 2021.

At the 21C launch, Kevin Czinger, CEO and founder of Czinger, said that the plan is to make it a full-fledged brand with multiple models. According to Sverdrup, at least three more models are in development, the first of which will be released after 2023. These models will be more affordable than the 21C, but will still be exclusive, with extreme performance."
