2025 Hyundai Ioniq 9 enters 3-row EV racing in 2024

Hyundai has confirmed that an electric three-row crossover SUV will debut later this year.

The debut date was stated in a press release detailing changes to Hyundai's lineup for the 2025 model year. The new electric crossover will also be a 2025 model, but Hyundai did not confirm how long after its unveiling it will reach the United States.

The car, which was spotted testing earlier this year, was unveiled at the launch of the Ioniq EV sub-brand in 2020. It was then heralded by the Hyundai Seven Concept, which debuted at the 2021 Los Angeles Auto Show.

The name has yet to be confirmed. Hyundai called the concept version the Seven. However, the Hyundai Ioniq 9 is also a possibility, matching the Kia EV9, with which the Hyundai crossover is expected to share a stretched version of the EV-specific E-GMP platform.

Whatever the final name, this three-row crossover would be similar in size to current midsize SUVs such as Hyundai's own Palisade. However, the packaging advantages of the E-GMP platform mean that the interior space will be closer to that of a full-size SUV. The Seven Concept's wheelbase was 126.0 inches, but spy shots indicate that the production version may be slightly shorter, perhaps closer to the EV9's 122.0 inches.

Hyundai has not confirmed powertrain specs for the new three-row electric crossover, but they will likely match those of the EV9. Kia will offer a standard 76.1 kwh battery pack and single-motor rear-wheel drive powertrain, but will also offer a 99.8 kwh pack and rear-wheel drive or dual-motor all-wheel drive. Also offered is a 99.8 kwh pack and rear-wheel drive or dual-motor all-wheel drive.

Genesis is also testing an all-electric GV90, previewed by the recently unveiled Genesis Neolun concept. However, the GV90 is not expected to debut until 2026.
