Following Label Red, BMW adds 50e to XM family

BMW quietly unveiled a new XM variant, dubbed the XM 50e, on the sidelines of the XM Label Red launch on Tuesday.

The XM 50e was announced via a teaser video and is believed to feature a six-cylinder engine in place of the V-8 engine found in the Label Red and the original XM variant unveiled last fall.

The XM 50e's powertrain is believed to be the plug-in hybrid setup that debuted in the 7 Series-based M760e last year, with a 3.0-liter turbo six mated to an electric motor that produces 563 hp combined.

The V-8-powered XM and XM Label Red are both plug-in hybrids, producing 644 hp and 738 hp, respectively.

Production is scheduled to begin in August at BMW Group's plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina, and is expected to arrive in showrooms by fall; they will appear as 2024 models.

Pricing in the U.S. for the XM with the V-8 engine will start at $159,995 and is expected to reach $185,995 for the Label Red version. XM prices in other markets may start at lower price points with the launch of the XM 50e.
