Alfa Romeo celebrates 100 years of the Quadrifoglio brand.

Alfa Romeo's performance brand Quadrifoglio will celebrate its 100th anniversary this year (the exact date is June 25).

To kick things off, Alfa Romeo on Thursday revealed an updated design for its Quadrifoglio logo, adopting a gold frame and a more vibrant shade of green.

The famous logo first appeared on the RL running Ugo Sivocci's Targa Florio in 1923. Since then, the symbol has been used on all of Alfa Romeo's more sporting machines.

Its original RL racing cars proudly wore the emblem, and other cars wearing the mark have put Alfa Romeo on the podium of many races.

The Quadrifoglio was adorned on the Alfa Romeo racing cars that won the first two races of the 1950 season, the inaugural season of Formula One. The Quadrifoglio was also applied to DTM winners and to cars designed to bring sporty driving to the streets. Both cars are powered by a twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V-6 with 500 hp and carry on the proud tradition by bearing the Quadrifoglio.

The automotive industry is full of cool symbols and badges that have been used over the years. However, very few can claim to have achieved iconic status, and Quadrifoglio is one of the few. It has come a long way since its use on the hood of the Ugo Sivocci RL, but it is great to see it continually applied and appreciated by Alfa Romeo and its fans.

As for Auto Delta, it dates back to March 5, 1963, when brothers Carlo Kitty and Cizzola founded Auto Delta with the goal of collaborating with Alfa Romeo in the production of the Giulia TZ. Alfa Romeo eventually bought the company in 1965 and established it as its official racing division, renaming it Outdelta in the process.
