Acura MDX Type S, plans for the new compact sedan revealed in an anticipated dealer briefing.

Acura has just taken the cover off the redesigned 2021 TLX, which boasts a new Type S variant with a newly developed 3.0-liter V-6 turbocharger.

But the brand's resurgence doesn't end there.

According to information revealed at a purportedly recent dealer briefing, the MDX Type S and a new compact sedan that also boasts a Type S variant will be introduced. A video of the briefing was posted on the Acurazine forum on Monday, but has since been removed.

No other information about the vehicle was mentioned, except that the MDX Type S is based on the redesigned MDX due in 2021, and that the new compact sedan will include a Type S variant due within 12 months of that.

Interestingly, the new compact sedan was not mentioned as the ILX, Acura's current compact sedan based on the Honda Civic, perhaps suggesting the introduction of a new nameplate. Honda is expected to unveil a redesigned Civic in 2021, and Acura may be developing a new compact sedan alongside it. [For the MDX Type S, power will likely come from the V-6 in the TLX Type S sedan, but some sort of performance hybrid configuration is also possible. We don't expect to see this V-6 engine in the new Type S compact sedan either, but with any luck, it will be the powertrain for the upcoming Civic Type R.

The MDX Type S will also be powered by a V-6 engine from the TLX Type S sedan.
