The Hyundai Prophecy concept hints at the future model lineup.

Hyundai unveiled the Prophecy Concept on Tuesday, giving a glimpse of its future design.

The concept features a curvy, almost retro EV design reminiscent of the 1950s Saab 92. Hyundai describes the design as an evolution of the Sensuous Sportiness design language first introduced in the 2018 Le Fil Rouge concept.

While Le Fil Rouge foreshadowed the design of the latest Sonata, it is unclear at this stage whether Prophecy foreshadows a specific model; Prophecy likely hints at a future design theme rather than an actual production model in particular These include the concept's voluminous proportions, clean surfaces and aerodynamic shape. Hyundai has stated that the car's pixelated headlights will also be used as a distinctive design language for future models.

The long wheelbase allows for a spacious interior that, like the exterior, also features retro themes. At the same time, the interior remains high-tech: a joystick replaces the traditional steering wheel and a large digital screen occupies almost the entire width of the dashboard. In addition, an air purification system cleans the air entering the cabin and returns it to the atmosphere.

Whether the Prophecy Concept will go into production is still unknown, but Hyundai's other cool EV concept, last year's Wedge 45 concept, will likely be released as a production model Prototypes are currently undergoing testing before debuting in 2021.

The vehicle is currently undergoing testing.
