First Retailer of the 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 to Auction

With the arrival of the 2025 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and its screaming twin-turbo V-8 engine with 1,064 hp, the American sports car is about to reach hypercar status. It accelerates from rest to 60 mph in 2.3 seconds, runs the quarter mile in under 10 seconds, and reaches a top speed of 233 mph.

Deliveries will begin early next year, and if you want to get your hands on the first retail model, you'll need to come up with some serious cash. Chevrolet will be auctioning off the rights to the car, whose VIN number ends in 001, at a charity auction to raise funds for the American Red Cross.

The car will be sold at the Barrett-Jackson Auction on January 25 in Scottsdale, Arizona, with all proceeds going to charity. The car will not be manufactured until after the auction, allowing the winning bidder to configure it to his or her liking.

Auctioning the rights to the first retail examples of new Corvette models has become a tradition in recent years. It has also become something of a tradition that the winning bidder is dealer and NASCAR magnate Rick Hendrick.

Corvettes sold at charity auctions have fetched $1 million in recent years. The first 2023 Corvette Z06 sold at the same auction in 2022, successfully raising $3.6 million; the ZR1's winning bid may be even higher.

Chevrolet has not announced the actual price of the car, but the starting price is expected to be in the low $100,000 range. A fully equipped model could hit the $200,000 mark, another first for the Chevrolet brand.

As steep as it sounds, the ZR1 will boast 1,064 hp produced by a newly developed twin-turbocharged 5.5-liter V-8, mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic The ZR1 will also feature a unique The split rear window sets it apart from the rest of the 2025 Corvette lineup. The available ZTK Performance Package adds a number of aerodynamic modifications that raise the maximum downforce to 1,200 pounds.

Chevrolet is believed to be working on another Corvette variant that is even more powerful, possibly called the Zora. With the addition of a front-mounted electric motor, it is expected to be more powerful and may soon overtake the ZR1's top speed. However, Chevrolet has not announced any plans for additional Corvettes beyond the ZR1.
