Shelby Cobra replica of “Bad Boys” to be auctioned

Many fans may associate the Porsche 911 Turbo owned by Mike Lowry, played by Will Smith, with the 1995 hit movie “Bad Boys,” but the film also featured an equally impressive car, a Shelby Cobra.

And now, a car that is believed to be one of the two Cobras used in the filming is up for auction at Mecum next month in Kissimmee, Florida.

The Cobra was used by the film's villain, Fouchet, played by Cheicky Carillo. Fans of the film will recall that Fouche crashed this car at the end of the film; according to Mecum, the crashed car was a stunt car, and the car being sold is the hero car used for most of the filming.

Allegedly, the car remained in the possession of one owner after filming ended, and the owner kept it in dry storage all these years. In fact, the car is an original Kellison Stallion car, of which 117 were built between 1976 and 1980. Power is from a Ford 351 Cleveland V-8, but instead of a manual, it has an automatic transmission with a Hurst shifter.

According to the listing, the car was obtained from South Beach Classics, a collector car dealership that also specializes in filming rentals. There are references to the “Bad Boys” movie, including the original insurance certificate from the producer, Columbia Pictures, the original 1099 form issued by Columbia Pictures to South Beach Classics, and a copy of the registration card addressed to Columbia Pictures, which states that the car is a ” Documents purported to prove that it is a “Bad Boys” Cobra are included in the sale.

Mecum also sold a “Bad Boys” Hero 911 Turbo just two years ago. The car ended up selling for a bid of $1.3 million, and after buyer's fees were taken into account, the final sales price was $1.43 million.

This Cobra replica is lot S201 in Mecum's Kissimmee auction scheduled for January 7-19. This is not the only movie car to be put under the hammer. One of the Porsche 917s used in Steve McQueen's classic film Le Mans will also be in Kissimmee's auction.
