2026 Audi A7 Allroad Spotted Again

The next generation Audi A7 family is being planned and will include new sedan and avant-wagon body styles; a prototype of the A7 wagon has been spotted; and a new A7 allroad is in the works.

Signs that we are looking at an A7 allroad rather than an A7 Avant include increased ride height, wheel arch cladding, and according to our photographer, a softer tune for the suspension compared to the regular A7 Avant prototypes also out testing included.

The A7 Allroad will be the direct successor to the current A6 Allroad, which has been available to U.S. buyers since the 2020 model year. The A7 sedan and high-performance RS 7 Avant will also replace the current A6 sedan and RS 6 Avant.

Audi's A6 nameplate has gone the E-Tron electric vehicle route with the latest generation, but Audi still wants to offer a gas-powered mid-size lineup, which is why the A7 range is being expanded. This is all part of Audi's new naming strategy of using even numbers for EVs and odd numbers for internal combustion engine models in model names.

The first A6 E-Tron variant is expected to hit US showrooms next spring or summer. The next-generation A7 is expected to arrive late next year as a 2026 model, and the A7 Allroad should be available at or near launch.

The A7 Allroad and RS 7 Avant may be the only versions of the new A7 wagon offered to US buyers.

Audi has not mentioned plans for the next A7, but expect it to use an updated version of the MLB platform known as the Premium Platform Combustion (PPC). Audi plans to phase out combustion models in most markets over the course of this decade, and is therefore unlikely to invest in a new ICE platform for the next A7; the PPC platform debuted in the redesigned A5 series earlier this year.

Depending on the market, the A7 allroad's powertrain should include turbocharged V6 gas and diesel engines, with mild hybrid technology likely to be standard. All-wheel drive will also be standard. A plug-in hybrid powertrain may also be available.
