U-Haul Toy Forwarder Aims For Truck Day

Next year, U-Haul will add a new trailer to its rental fleet, perfect for hauling race cars to and from trucks.

This trailer, called the toy carrier, is slightly over 23 feet long and 8.5 feet wide. It created 16 feet of usable deck space and u haul-off was included in the fender drive to maximize the use of that space. A load capacity of 6,800 pounds is a meaningful increase over the current U-Haul auto transport trailer's maximum weight rating of 5,290 pounds.

For loading and unloading, the three individual 8.0-foot lamps at the rear are designed to accommodate three-wheeled as well as cars, conventional motorcycles, and side-by-side. With the increasing demand for trailers to transport different types of vehicles like these, U-Haul has added toy haulers to its fleet.

"With the addition of this high capacity option, rental vehicles will be able to meet a wider range of customer needs, with trailers suitable for both small and heavy vehicles and a wide variety of cargo options available," Jasmine Spencer, Tow Program Manager at U-Haul headquarters, told Road & Track.Toy haulers are "designed to complement, rather than replace, existing products," he said.

Spencer also told Roads & Trucks that once toy carriers enter the fleet, U-Haul will not sell any of the existing trailers, since most of the current trailers will be built within the last decade and thus have several years of service remaining on them. That is why enthusiasts looking for cheap trailers to carry project cars will have to look elsewhere.

Production is expected to begin in early 2025 at the U-Haul Technical Center in Tempe, Arizona. The price will be available close to that time.
