Mercedes launches AMG PureSpeed and Mythos series
Mercedes-Benz has officially introduced the Mythos series, a new line of limited edition masterpieces, debuting with a stunning speedster inspired by the AMG SL

.

The car, which is capped at 250 worldwide, was first previewed on the PureSpeed concept on May 5. Both the name of the concept and its impressive design have been carried into production.

Revealed on Saturday during the 2024 F1 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, PureSpeed is a true speed star that completely lacks a roof and windscreen, like the SLR McLaren Stirling Moss, which launched more than 10 years ago. For occupant safety, the designers integrated a halo protection system similar to the one used in Formula 1. Made of steel instead of carbon fiber in the F1, the halo protects the occupant's head by deflecting large objects. PureSpeed also includes a dual rollover hoop placed behind the seat.

A small wind deflector in front of the cabin guide Airflow over the heads of the driver and passengers, but a helmet is required for speeds that exceed the limits of the city. To complement the car, AMG offers matching helmets with a communication system that allows clear conversations between occupants at high speed. The smartphone can also be paired with the system to make calls or enjoy your favorite playlists. When the vehicle is not in use, the fabric is designed to fit over the cabin to protect the vehicle from the elements.

PureSpeed is built on the SL63 model from the latest SL lineup. It boasts its car's 577 hp twin turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 and all-wheel drive system. The only transmission is the AMG 9-speed automatic, which features a wet start clutch instead of a traditional torque converter for weight savings and sharper response. Performance figures include a sprint of 3.6〜0mph in 62 seconds and a top speed of 196mph.

Other elements borrowed from the SL include front lift kit, rear wheel steering and carbon ceramic brake rotors. It also includes AMG's active ride control suspension with hydraulic roll stabilization and adaptive damper. The wheels measure 21 inches and feature a carbon fiber cover to reduce turbulence. Active aerodynamic features are built into the car, including the components below.

The front of the car features a more pronounced nose compared to the standard SL, which Mercedes said was inspired by the design of the Amg One hypercar. Also unique in the design is the paint fade, which incorporates the hand-painted AMG logo. Among the concepts are a custom-made trim and a custom dash-mounted clock designed by the watch company IWC Schaffhausen, a partner of Mercedes. The designers also installed a 15-speaker Barmester audio system and a center console badge that read "250 out of 1" to highlight the car's exclusivity.

Mercedes-Benz has not announced the price of PureSpeed. The automaker has also not said whether the car will be available in the U.S.
