Tesla Model S plaid revealed in Police specifications

California-based Up.FIT, a division of Tesla Tuner unplugged performance, has transformed the Tesla model S plaid into a police car.

The Plaid police cruiser, which debuted at the 2024 SEMA show in Las Vegas, is directed at the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department's community outreach program, according to Unplugged Performance. The company is up and running FIT division has made several Tesla police transformations, including the Cyber Truck police Cruiser, and made similar changes to this model S. The new wiring harness integrates police lights that are mounted behind the windshield and rear window as well as along the side skirt and eliminates the aerodynamic resistance created by the traditional light bar, depending on unplugged performance.

Other police equipment includes push bars, high and low frequency sirens, and public address systems. This equipment all adds weight, but unplugged performance is estimated to be a relatively small drop in range up to 359 miles, compared to the standard plaid's 345 miles.

According to Tesla, the police car produces 1,020 horsepower and holds a stock plaid tri-motor all-wheel drive powertrain that gets the civilian version from 0-60mph in 1.9 seconds. But the police turnaround included lighter wheels and upgraded brakes.

While Tesla does not offer factory police packages, the department is forcing it to rely on aftermarket companies like Unplugged Performance, while several other automakers sell electric police cars. General Motors offers a police version of the Chevrolet Blazer EV. Ford has built a limited number of Mustang Mach-E police cars for the New York Police Department, doing the same with the F-150 Lightning. It seems Stellantis is set to launch a police version of the Dodge Charger Daytona as well.
