Volvo from 2020 onwards to be covered by new infotainment system

Volvo's latest infotainment system, introduced in the heavily updated 2025.5 XC90 and the new 2025 model year electric EX90, will now be available to owners of older models.

Volvo announced the new system on Wednesday and said owners of vehicles built before 2020 can upgrade to the new system for free. The system will be offered via over-the-air updates for vehicles with Google built in.

Volvo said about 2.5 million vehicles worldwide are eligible.

The new system is still based on Google's Android operating system, but it is simpler to use than the previous system and access to frequently used apps and controls is now on the home screen for quicker access

The system is now more user-friendly.

Volvo cited the example of no longer having to exit Google Maps during navigation when the driver wants to turn on the media player.

Another new feature that facilitates the user experience is the contextual bar. It provides relevant information based on the current situation and displays recently used apps. [...] [...] [...] [...]
