907 HP Lamborghini Temerario, successor to the Huracan, unveiled.

Behold the Lamborghini Temerario, a new V-8 plug-in hybrid that will replace the top-selling Huracan.

The new supercar debuted in California on Friday as one of the stars of the 2024 Monterey Car Week. Since the Revelto, which replaces the Aventador, and the Urus SE SUV are also plug-in hybrids, the arrival of this new model means that Lamborghini is a fully electrified brand.

The name Temerario means “reckless” in Spanish, and like its big brother the Revuelto, it means “scrambling” or “unruly” in Spanish. The Temerario is indeed a wild machine, so the name is fitting.

The car debuted a new aluminum chassis. This is similar to the one used by the Huracan, but different from the carbon fiber one used by the V12-powered Revuelto. According to Lamborghini, torsional rigidity has been improved and there is more space for passengers. The car's exterior shape is also larger, likely due to the added hardware. Overall length is just over 185 inches, about 10 inches longer than the Huracan. Weight has also increased, with a dry weight of 3,725 pounds (the Huracan in the same class weighs about 3,330 pounds).

This increase in weight is due to a plug-in hybrid powertrain consisting of a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V-8 and three electric motors. The mid-mounted engine has a flat-plane crankshaft and delivers a peak of 791 hp on its own, thanks in part to a turbocharger that blows up to 36 psi of charge air. The engine can rev to 10,000 rpm.

Like the Revuelto, the Temerario has two electric motors on the front axle, with a third motor sandwiched between the V-8 engine and the transmission (in this case, the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic found in the Revuelto). According to Lamborghini, the third motor supports the torque fill of the V-8 engine and delivers progressive power delivery like a racing engine. It also functions as a starter motor and can recover energy.

Total output is an impressive 907 hp, 0-62 mph acceleration in 2.7 seconds, and a top speed of over 210 mph. Electric range is also possible thanks to a 3.8 kwh lithium-ion battery installed in the central tunnel.

No range estimates have been provided, but designers focused on achieving an aerodynamic shape to maximize this figure. The automaker said that the Temerario's shape reaches new heights in terms of aerodynamic efficiency due to the various channels designed to direct airflow.

The face of the car differs significantly from that of the Revuelt, featuring slit-like headlights and large daytime running lights in a hexagonal shape. In addition, a large intake above the rear fender and an additional engine cover emphasize the V-8 cylinder. At the rear, a single exhaust tip is mounted high, and the rear mask, like past Lamborghinis, has a clearly visible rear tire.

On the interior, there are many similarities to the Revuelto, including a floating digital meter cluster and a thin digital display on the passenger side of the dashboard. A vertical infotainment screen is located in the center of the dash. The steering wheel is a new Lamborghini design with carbon accents. It also features a red rotary dial for drive modes.

Drivers of the Temerario have access to three powertrain modes (Charge, Hybrid, Performance) and five drive modes (City, Strada, Sport, Corsa, Corsa Plus). Corsa Plus is the same as Corsa, but also deactivates Electronic Stability Control, so power is not cut off when driving at the limit.

The most powerful setup is the combination of Performance and Corsa modes. In this mode, the powertrain delivers full power and the engine is constantly engaged to ensure battery charge. The chassis system is also set to provide the sharpest response.

Temerario prices have not been announced.
