A Canadian EV conversion store announced plans this week to build an electric Hummer using Tesla components.

North American Electric Vehicle (NAEV) aims to build what it calls a Cyber Hummer by installing a used Tesla powertrain in a former military Hummer (the vehicle was once sold as the original civilian Hummer H1).

Initial specifications for the Executive Edition of the NAEV include a dual-motor all-wheel-drive powertrain producing a maximum output of 1,000 hp and a maximum torque of 1,000 lb-ft, with a claimed 0-60 mph acceleration time of 2.5 seconds. 75 kwh battery packs will provide a maximum 300 miles of range, the company claims, adding that it aims to support both CCS and NACS fast charging.

NAEV uses used Tesla parts and also sources Humvees from surplus auctions. The modification process includes the removal of internal combustion engine related components such as the transmission, fuel system, and exhaust system, as well as the transfer case, geared hubs, and original cast iron suspension components.

The removal of these components reduces the vehicle's weight to an estimated 4,500 pounds. This is approximately 2,000 pounds lighter than the slimmest factory-produced Hummer H1 and about 1/2 the weight of the new GMC Hummer EV. The lower vehicle weight also means that the Cyber Hummer can be registered as a Class 1 vehicle for on-road use, although it is not as luxurious as the Hummer EV.

The stock suspension will be replaced by what NAEV calls a "hybrid" independent suspension system that includes several new in-house components and parts from Tesla. NAEV claims 15 inches of ground clearance in the new setup, and the Cyber Hummer Executive Edition has 20-inch aluminum wheels with all-terrain tires.

The Executive Edition is priced at $139,900, but NAEV is also planning Baja and Commander versions, priced at $98,900 and $119,900, respectively. The cars will be produced within six months of receiving an order, and NAEV aims to produce 328 cars per year.
