One-off Lotus Evya X, the second fastest EV to hit the rings

Lotus has released a video of its electric hypercar Eviya, which laps the Nürburgring in just 6 minutes 24.047 seconds.

Lotus recorded this time in a run last fall. Incredibly, Lotus says it thinks the car still has plenty of power left in it.

However, the car was not stock. According to Lotus, the car was a one-off time attack special known as the "Eviya X," built to demonstrate what is possible when pushing the Eviya and its electric powertrain to the limit.

Lotus has not revealed what changes were made to the Eviya to make it the Eviya X. However, from the photos and video, it appears that a high-downforce aerodynamics package has been adopted and the cabin has been trimmed down. It also appears to have been equipped with Pirelli racing slicks and had the same peak power of 2,011 hp as the stock Evya X.

The EV ring record was 6:05.33, which was set by the 2019 Volkswagen ID.R Time Attack Special. This is the second fastest time for a vehicle to lap the ring. The fastest time was a staggering 5:19.55 set in 2018 by the Porsche 919 Evo Hybrid, a Time Attack Special based on the 919 Hybrid LMP1 racing car.

Lotus notes that the Evya X is based on a production car platform, the ID.R on a custom-built platform, and the 919 Evo Hybrid on a racing car platform.

The lap record for a production EV at the Ring is 7:05.298, set last year by the Rimac Nevella, while the record for a production car regardless of powertrain is 6:35.183, set by the Mercedes-Benz AMG One in 2022.
