2025 Bentley Continental GT Convertible, Electric Power Spotted

Bentley is preparing an update to the Continental GT, and the latest prototype of the convertible has been spotted. A prototype for the coupe was also spotted earlier.

The current Continental GT went on sale in 2018 as a 2019 model. This updated version is expected to go on sale in 2024, meaning it will likely appear as a 2025 model in the U.S.

Judging by the camouflage gear used on the test vehicle, design changes will be minimal. The most significant tweak appears to be a new interior for the lights at both ends.

While the exterior looks largely unchanged, what's under the hood will change dramatically: Bentley's venerable 6.0-liter W-12 twin-turbo engine will be discontinued in April, and the limited edition Batur coupe will be the last car to feature the engine.

Its replacement is believed to be a new V8-based plug-in hybrid powertrain that combines the current Bentley's 4.0-liter V8 twin turbo with an electric motor integrated with the transmission. A similar system is used by Porsche, another Volkswagen Group brand, in its Cayenne and Panamera, with a maximum output of 670 hp. This is a far cry from the 740 hp maximum output that Bentley's W-12 delivers in the Batur.

It is also possible that a more modest hybrid will replace Continental's current V-8 option. This setup will likely feature the same plug-in hybrid powertrain used in the Bentayga Hybrid and Flying Spur Hybrid. This powertrain will consist of a twin-turbocharged 2.9-liter V-6 and an electric motor integrated with the transmission, producing a total of 536 hp.

Bentley plans to electrify its full lineup this decade, gradually introducing electric alternatives as each model reaches the end of its life cycle; Bentley's first electric model is scheduled for late 2026, a year later. It will be a new model line, possibly a crossover.
