The Latest on the 2025 Kia EV6 Spotted

Kia appears to be preparing an update to its EV6 electric compact crossover, as evidenced by a recent sighting of a camouflaged prototype undergoing cold weather testing in northern Sweden.

The prototype is for an updated version of the regular EV6, while a prototype for an updated version of the EV6 GT Performance flagship has been spotted testing previously.

The EV6 arrived in the U.S. for the 2022 model year, spawning the EV6 GT for 2023. In Kia tradition, the updated model should appear in the 2025 model year, meaning it will likely debut later this year.

An updated version of the related Hyundai Ioniq 5 has already been released and is also expected to appear in the 2025 model year.

The EV6 prototype is extensively camouflaged, but one can see a new front end with redesigned headlights that appear to be lower than the lights on the current EV6.

It is not clear what mechanical changes are planned, but it is likely that the current 77.4 kwh battery will be replaced with an 84 kwh unit. The updated Ioniq 5 also made this change.

The EV6, based on Hyundai Motor Group's flexible E-GMP platform, has an EPA-estimated range of 310 miles in its current form; the EV6 GT's range is only 218 miles, but the all-wheel drive 576 hp from its dual-motor powertrain is enough power to achieve 0-60 mph acceleration in 3.4 seconds and a top speed of 161 mph.

Other electric Kias under testing include the EV3 subcompact crossover and the EV9 GT high-performance midsize SUV. These are all part of Kia's plan to have 14 EVs in its lineup by the end of 2027.
