2017 Ford Mustang Shelby Super Snake Widebody Concept Comes to Auction

Shelby American's widebody sixth-generation Ford Mustang Concept is up for auction and will cross the block at Mecum's auction in Kissimmee, Florida from January 4-15.

The Shelby Super Snake Widebody Concept, unveiled in 2017, is the first application of the Shelby's widened look of previous generations of widebodies to the sixth-generation Mustang, which debuted for the 2015 model year and is now approaching the end of its life.2024 Model Year the new seventh-generation Mustang will replace it.

The concept started as a standard 2015 Mustang, but with hand-crafted front fenders (with functional vents), new rear quarter and rocker panels, and exclusive carbon fiber Shelby front and rear spoilers. The widebody kit allowed Shelby to add 4.0 inches to the rear track and 2.5 inches to the front, and served as a template for the production version of the kit that Shelby would offer to its customers.

Improvements were not limited to styling. Shelby added a Whipple supercharger to Ford's 5.0-liter V-8 engine, giving the concept 750 hp. That power is delivered via a six-speed manual transmission to 20-inch wheels with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires.

Shelby also fitted a full adjustable coilover suspension kit, tubular control arms, and Brembo brakes with vented rotors.

The Super Snake Widebody Concept was sold to a private owner after its unveiling (a purchase agreement is included with the vehicle). The odometer currently shows only 1,350 miles, which is understandable given that it was originally conceived as a show car. Classic Shelby Mustangs are popular auction items, but it is unclear how much this late model will be valued at auction. Its unique history and wide-body looks may draw more attention than other recent Shelby Mustangs.
