Brabus builds 888 hp Mercedes-Benz G-Class pickup

Mercedes-Benz has yet to announce any additional body styles for the second-generation G-Class, but German tuning company Brabus has one in the form of the XLP.

From time to time, Brabus likes to offer special versions of the XLP with even more stuff attached. The latest is the P 900 Rocket Edition, limited to just 10 units.

Like all Brabus XLP pickups, the P 900 Rocket Edition starts with the AMG G 63, whose twin-turbo 4.0-liter V-8 already spits out a respectable 577 hp and 627 lb-ft. However, Brabus has upped the performance dial to 888 hp and 774 lb-ft of torque. Peak torque is actually 922 lb-ft, but must be electronically limited to maintain the rest of the drivetrain.

Major changes to the engine include a new turbocharger with a larger displacement of 4.5 liters and a larger compressor, an upgraded fuel system, and a high-flow exhaust that extends backward from the manifold. Brabus also reprogrammed the engine management system.

Owners can expect 0-62 mph acceleration in 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 174 mph. Tires are Continental, a massive 355 mm at the rear axle, wrapped around 24-inch forged wheels with carbon fiber aerodiscs designed to reduce aerodynamic drag due to turbulence.

On the outside, the Brabus is fitted with a wide-body kit, accent lighting, and carbon-fiber goodies. The bed is steel with a side swing tailgate, and the bed sides are carbon fiber. The sporty stance is created by a lowered suspension that includes aluminum coilovers and adjustable dampers.

The interior is based on black leather, with red glazing on all plastic trim pieces. However, the company tailors the interior to individual customer preferences.

Prices start at €649,638 ($634,570) without taxes.
