The first Bronco 6x6 called Dark Horse is up for auction

Florida-based Apocalypse Manufacturing has built its first Ford Bronco 6x6. Dubbed the Dark Horse, the modified SUV will be auctioned by Barrett-Jackson on April 9 in Palm Beach, Florida.

Apocalypse Manufacturing specializes in 6x6 conversions. Among those built to date are the Jeep Gladiator 6x6 and the Ram 1500 TRX 6x6 known as the Warlord. Given the popularity of these conversions, it was only a matter of time before Apocalypse turned its attention to Bronco.

The Dark Horse began as a four-door Bronco before receiving an extra axle and a five-foot pickup bed. According to Apocalypse, these additions increased the Bronco's overall length from 189 inches to 225 inches. In addition, the factory convertible roof was replaced with a removable fiberglass hardtop.

The stock 2.7-liter turbocharged V-6 engine also received new software, larger injectors, and an improved exhaust system. Apocalypse claims that this has increased output from the stock 330 hp to approximately 400 hp. That power is delivered to all six wheels thanks to Apocalypse's patented middle tandem axle. These wheels were wrapped with 37-inch tires, and the Bronco also received a 4-inch suspension lift.

Apocalypse reupholstered the interior in a tan and black leather that the company calls King Ranch Pattern. The leather is marine-grade and water-resistant, which the company says comes in handy when the vehicle is driven with the roof and doors off for extended periods of time.

The company plans additional Bronco 6x6 builds, including modifications to customers' Broncos, Apocalype owner Joseph Gattas said in a statement, including a 700-hp supercharged Coyote V-8 and a Kevlar-coated paint job. Kevlar-coated paint, and other wilder broncos, he said.
