This rebuilt 1976 Chevrolet Corvette utilizes C5 and C6 equipment.

This 1976 Chevrolet Corvette is not what it looks like: it is a C3 Corvette bodyshell with late-model C5 and C6 hardware.

The restomod is the product of Protourergarage (aka Hardcore Engine Builders), a Hungarian company specializing in Corvette builds. The vehicle currently for sale was one of two early proof-of-concept modifications, according to the listing.

Underneath the fiberglass body is a custom chassis designed by Protourergarage that incorporates QA1 coilovers and C5 Corvette suspension components. This necessitated wide fenders, and the large-diameter wheels (18-inch front, 19-inch rear), diverted from the C6 Corvette Centennial Edition, are nicely covered.

Power comes from an LS1 5.7-liter V-8 that produces 380 hp and drives the rear wheels via the C6 Corvette's six-speed manual transaxle. It also features C6 Z51 brakes and a custom exhaust system.

Like the exterior, the interior maintains the 1970s look while incorporating modern components. New Dakota gauges and Retrosound radio are integrated into the factory dashboard, and the seats have been redone in new leather upholstery.

The Corvette was auctioned in the UK and is currently registered as a tax-free historic car. However, the auctioneer has the ability to export it to the United States, a spokesperson for Protourergarage told Motor Authority. Pre-auction estimates range from 30,000 to 50,000 British pounds, or about $40,000 to $67,000 at the current exchange rate.
